Abby Karos
Abby Karos is an educational changemaker, facilitator, and founder whose work is reshaping how we imagine learning, justice, and community in and beyond schools. She is the founder of two transformative ventures: the Compass Centre for Self-Directed Learning, part of the Liberated Learners network, and Education Liberation, a consultancy rooted in global Indigenous and restorative justice practices. With decades of experience inside and alongside educational systems, Abby brings bold imagination and grounded strategy to her mission of educational transformation.
Drawing from a deep well of training in Healing-Centered Education, Non-Violent Communication, embodied racial healing, and transformative justice, Abby supports educators and youth to cultivate authentic relationships, systems awareness, and community-rooted solutions. She believes in starting from within—building trust, embodiment, and interconnection as foundations for systemic change. Whether she's leading restorative justice staff training or coaching youth in peer mediation, Abby’s work is rooted in a deep respect for young people’s wisdom and a radical hope for what schools can become.
Through the Fellowship, Abby is excited to deepen her exploration of healing-centered systems change and to co-create new models that center community, creativity, and ecological alignment. She is currently developing a cross-generational initiative that brings youth and elders together to solve real-world problems, as well as a practical workbook for educators working toward transformative practice. Abby’s presence in the Fellowship reflects her powerful blend of vision, integrity, and love for what is possible when we trust young people and ourselves to lead change.
