Melissa Brooks-Yip
Melissa Brooks-Yip is an education consultant and the founder of Teacher Education for Action, LLC. With 25 years of experience across classrooms, colleges, and coaching roles, she brings a deep commitment to transforming teaching practices through equity-focused professional learning. Currently a doctoral candidate, Melissa’s work lives at the intersection of research and classroom reality, where she supports educators in moving beyond performative gestures to engage in sustainable, critical self-reflection.
What drives Melissa is a fierce dedication to dismantling systemic racism within education—particularly by supporting white teachers in developing racial literacy and implementing anti-racist pedagogies. Her research and praxis are shaped by this purpose, along with her desire to merge academic insight with day-to-day teaching strategies that truly shift classroom cultures. Whether leading workshops or mentoring instructional leaders, she approaches each conversation as an invitation to deeper transformation.
Through the Acosta Institute Fellowship, Melissa hopes to root further into healing-centered frameworks that nurture both individual and collective change. She’s excited to collaborate with like-minded fellows who are also holding space for justice, truth-telling, and liberation in their spheres of influence.
